Saving Seeds and The Garden Cycle

Gardening is full of cycles and surprises.

Last year I was visiting a small plant nursery. The owner unexpectedly handed me a plastic baggie half full of seeds. “Marigolds,” she said.

Sprinkled in with the seeds were bits of dried petals. It was a pretty mix.

I dutifully planted the seeds last fall (we are somewhat backwards here in Arizona.)

The results are beautiful!

Aren’t the striped ones pretty?

It isn’t all about beauty, however. Something important is going on under those bright petals.

I’m now on the look out for these.

You see, these seeds are going into baggies for my friends.

And the cycle continues.
